History

SBIEO traces its origin to the special investigation cell set up under Crime Investigation Department (CID) in 1976 by Government of Madhya Pradesh. Later, Bureau acquired its current nomenclature as “State Bureau of Investigation Economic Offence” (SBIEO) through a Government order in August 1983. Initially, the Bureau work under direct Administrative control of Home Department but later in 1990 the Bureau was place under the Administrative control of the General Administration Department (GAD)
On Date 22-06-2012 the name SBIEO has been changed to EOW.

Charter & Power of Investigation :
Madhya Pradesh State Government established the EOW with a wide charter and with a view to setting up a specialized Agency for the investigation of Economic Offences and Corruption cases. Specifically:
·  To investigate Economic Crimes, fraud, cheating and embezzlement committed by public servants of all State Government Departments as well as cases of Corruption;
·  To investigate Special Economic Crimes affecting country’s internal security and national sovereignty.
·  Following is the table which consists of a list of the offences, notified by the State Government, authorizing EOW to investigate under various laws.
